Inside Connor’s: The National Bed Bug Conference

We normally use this section of our newsletter to talk about something that has happened with Connor’s Pest Protection. However, we are going to do things a little differently for this issue. Instead of talking specifically about Connor’s, we want to talk about K-9 Pest Detectors, which is one of our affiliates. This affiliate is extra special to us, since our own Eddie Connor is the President.

K-9 Pest Detectors, considered a leader in bed bug detection, was asked to conduct a “House of Learning” demonstration at the National Bed Bug Forum in Denver, Colorado. Instead of using humans for detection, as so many pest control companies still do, K-9 Pest Detectors uses trained scent detection dogs. A trained dog can detect scents 10,000 times better than a human, making them excellent bed bug finders. The dogs are specially trained to tell the difference between the scents of dead bed bugs, live bed bugs, eggs, and even skins left by bed bugs, and do so with far greater accuracy than a human can.

Eddie, with the help of K-9 Pest Detectors handler Jack, took one of his certified canines—Willie—to the conference to perform in the demonstration. He showed attendees how to interact with dog and what cues to look for during the detection process. In addition, he fielded questions and helped other pest control professionals learn the importance of using a canine detection unit.
