Friday, 28th May 2010
According to the National Pest Management Association, mosquitoes are likely to thrive this season. Warm and wet weather serves as a breeding ground for these pests, and most areas of the country have experienced these conditions. Since mosquitoes spread West Nile Virus to humans, people need to understand the virus and learn how to prevent receiving mosquito bites.
First, people need to know the symptoms of West Nile Virus so they can seek medical attention immediately if they get the virus. People with West Nile Virus experience flu like symptoms. They get headaches, fevers, rashes and muscle aches. In addition, people who have this disease can also experience gastrointestinal problems.
The best way to avoid West Nile Virus is to keep mosquitoes away from you and your property. Eliminate standing water from your property and use a mosquito repellent when you go outdoors. Also, do not wear dark or loose fitting clothing, and avoid areas where mosquitoes congregate. That way, you will be less likely to end up with the West Nile Virus.
The National Pest Management Association encourages people who have a mosquito infestation to contact a pest control professional. West Nile Virus is a serious illness, and thus, people must handle mosquitoes swiftly.
