When homeowners realize they have a termite infestation, they must take the appropriate action in order to protect their homes. Many people are not aware of what they need to do if they spot termites. The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture explained why it is important for homeowners to use a professional when dealing with termites.

The University states that termite removal requires a special set of skills that most homeowners do not have. An understanding of building construction is needed. When people have a knowledge of building construction, they can identify the areas termites are most likely to enter. 

In addition, special equipment is used for termite removal. Pest control companies have access to this equipment, along with the chemicals needed to eliminate the termites. Because of that, they are able to exterminate the pests.

The University goes on to say over the counter chemicals rarely eliminate termite problems. Thus, those who see signs of termites should use a professional in order to get the best results.
