Understanding Cockroaches

According to the Times Online, many people have strong feelings about cockroaches, but don’t really understand the pests. While they view these bugs as gross, they don’t know much about their habits, or the threats they cause people. 

For instance, many people think cockroaches carry diseases, but this is not true. However, they do pick up germs and spread them when they walk around. For instance, when a cockroach is in a sewer, it will pick up germs, and then deposit germs from the sewer everywhere he walks.

People also think cockroaches will only come to their homes if they leave food out all of the time. Cockroaches only need one meal a month, so people don’t’ have to leave food out daily to feed cockroaches. If they forget to clean up one meal a month, they can feed the bugs.

Lastly, people also don’t realize how often cockroaches reproduce. A single cockroach can be responsible for as many as one million cockroaches in a year’s time. 

Cockroaches can quickly take over a home, so people need to use pest control techniques to eliminate them. People should take immediate action and stop the problem before it becomes serious.
