The Rodent Rabies Link
Friday, 29th January 2010
A current situation in Bali has led researchers to believe there is a link between the spread of rabies and the infestation of rats. According to BaliDiscovery.com, there have been thirteen rabies related deaths attributed to rodent bites in Bali since 2009.
Rabies cases have been commonly linked to dogs. However, Bali Discovery states when a rat bites a rabid dog or eats a dog carcass that has been infected with the disease, it can potentially spread rabies as well.
Due to the safety concerns associated with rats, it is recommended home and business owners take immediate action if they see signs of an infestation. The rodents should be removed immediately and the area should be cleaned to prevent the spread of rabies and other diseases associated with rodents.
Pest control measures must be taken to protect the occupants of the home. While the link between rodents and rabies is still being studied, it is known that rodents carry a variety of diseases.
