Stinging Insects Ruin Summer Fun

Wednesday, 31st August 2011

It’s August, which means families are trying to squeeze out the last bit of fun before school starts back up. The result is that there are more barbecues, more outdoor picnics, and generally speaking more time spent outside, soaking up that last bit of sun before fall creeps in. Stinging insects also are enjoying the last bit of summer during this time. The result is a high risk of sending the children back to school recovering from bee and wasp stings. The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) recently released a statement urging people to exercise caution while outside during the summer months. While a single bee sting is usually little more than a painful nuisance, unless the victim is allergic it is not too much of a problem. However, when several bees sting a single target, such as what might happen if someone attempts to disturb or exterminate a nest, the results can be life-threatening. As such, the NPMA strongly advises against attempting to remove a stinging insect infestation yourself. Instead, they recommend hiring a professional service such as Connor’s to handle the infestation for you. To avoid spending the last few weeks of your summer with the pain of a bee sting, some of the best things you can do are to wear shoes when walking outside, and not to swat at stinging insects flying near you. By not aggravating them and removing the risk of stepping on them barefoot, you will avoid a painful sting. -The Connor’s News Team Source: http://www.pestworld.org/stinging-insects-summer
