Signs of Rodent Infestation
Wednesday, 20th January 2010
Homeowners need to recognize a rodent infestation immediately so they can protect their homes. The CDC lists several signs of rodent infestation, and by noticing the signs, homeowners can use pest control methods to eliminate the rodents.Rodent droppings are first on the CDC’s list of signs of infestation. They note rodent droppings are typically found in places where the homeowner has food. This includes pet food.
Next on the CDC’s list are rodent nests. Rodent nests are often made of paper, dry grass, twigs, fabric and furniture stuffing. The nests will likely be in a safe place away from predators, while still close to food and water.
The CDC also states one can detect an infestation by using their sense of smell. If an infested room is closed up, it will often have a stale or musky smell.
Homeowners need to take immediate action at the first sign of rodent infestation. The Environment Health and Safety Online notes rodents spread Hantavirus, among other diseases, and thus must be removed swiftly.
