Seasonal Home Checks to Prevent Pests
Wednesday, 17th March 2010
Home inspections are an important part of the pest control process. Inspections should be conducted at the end of winter so the home will be ready by spring. The National Pest Management Association has provided homeowners with a list of things to do during their home inspections.
According to the Pest Management Association, homeowners should repair fascia, soffits and rotted roof shingles. All cracks around the home should be sealed and weather stripping should be replaced. In addition, people need to inspect the mortar around the basement foundation and windows and repair it if it is cracked.
Along with the repairs, homeowners must make sure their basements, attics and crawlspaces are well ventilated and dry. Moisture attracts pests, and thus should be eliminated.
Lastly, they should put screens on the doors and windows. If screens are already in place, they should be checked for damage. Damaged screens should be replaced.
By following these steps, homeowners will reduce their chances of a pest infestation. However, if pests still make it inside, people can contact a pest control company to eliminate the problem. Keywords: Seasonal Home Checks to Prevent Pests
