Rodent Proofing for Winter

Monday, 25th January 2010

The recent cold weather snap has caused rodents moving indoors. There are things homeowners can do to prevent this movement from occurring. Recently, Confused.com created a list of tips for homeowners who want to weather proof their homes.

Confused.com states homeowners must seal gaps and holes in the home. Rodents can easily enter into a home when gaps and holes are present. Even when the gap is small, they can enter.

Doors and windows should also remain closed. Rodents can easily enter through an open door and window.

Excess trash can also lead to an infestation. The website notes the importance of managing waste. Store trash properly, as the smell of garbage will attract rodents.

Do not leave animal feed out in the open, either, as pet food can attract rodents. If you leave pet food out, rodents and other pests are likely to pay your home a visit.

If you do experience an infestation, be sure to eliminate the rodents with pest control methods and properly clean up after the pests are eliminated. Then, you can weather proof your home so you do not experience a future infestation.
