Risk Factors for Bed Bugs

Tuesday, 18th May 2010

Bed bugs are making a comeback. More people than ever before are reporting bed bug infestations, which is why people must be aware of the risk factors of getting these pests. According to the Mayo Clinic, several risk factors contribute to bed bug infestations.

Residences that have high turnover and occupancy rates are more prone to bed bugs than single-family dwellings with a low turnover and occupancy rates. Thus, apartment buildings and hotels are more likely to get bed bugs than someone who lives by himself in a house.

Travel can also lead to bed bugs. People can pick up bed bugs when they move from one place to the next. Since bed bugs are hitchhikers, they jump in suitcases or on people, and then make it back to the person’s residence.

When people find bed bugs in their homes, they should contact a pest control professional immediately. It is hard for people who are not trained in bed bug elimination to remove these pests. A pest control professional can use the latest techniques and technology to remove the bed bugs quickly. Then, people can sleep in peace without worrying about the bed bugs biting.
