Rat Proofing Your Home

Friday, 10th December 2010

Rats seek shelter in homes during the cold winter months. Once they are inside, they chew wires, tear up furniture and spread diseases. People can protect themselves by protecting their homes. According to First Coast News, several things can be done to keep rats from entering the home.

First, people need to close any openings in the home’s foundation. Rats squeeze into these openings and get under the home. Once they are under the house, they can make their way into the pipes, walls and attic.

Rats also use trees to gain entrance into a home. They look for trees that are close to the house, and then climb them. Then, they go from the tree to the roof of the house. Once they are on the roof, they look for an entry point to get inside so they can get food and shelter.

Homeowners should rat proof their homes immediately. In addition, they can call a pest control company to inspect the house and look for signs of a current infestation.
