Protection Against Carpenter Ants

Wednesday, 15th September 2010

The National Pest Management Association has cautioned homeowners against a very serious threat.  The threat is carpenter ants, and the association states they are much more common than people realize.  Because of that, it is important that people follow guidelines to keep these pests from invading their homes.

First, people need to eliminate moisture from their homes.  Carpenter ants need something to drink in order to survive, so they are attracted to homes that have sources of moisture.  Thus, homeowners need to fix leaks and clean up standing water.

Next, people need to seal cracks and crevices inside and outside of their homes. After they do that, they should trim back the trees and move mulch at least nine inches away from the home. They should also move all of the firewood that is around their homes.

Lastly, the National Pest Management Association urges people to schedule inspections with a pest control professional.  Regular inspections will give homeowners the upper hand when dealing with carpenter ants.
