Protect Yourself from West Nile Virus
Thursday, 8th July 2010
According to the Queens Courier, West Nile Virus might be a serious threat this mosquito season. With that in mind, the publication outlined several ways people can protect themselves from mosquitoes.
When people are outdoors, they should use DEET. DEET repels mosquitoes, and thus, helps lessen the chance of contracting West Nile Virus.
All windows should be screened. The screens should not be opened, even on a nice day. If a mosquito sees an open screen, he will view it as an invitation to come inside.
Swimming pools need to be properly chlorinated and cleaned. If they are not treated, they will become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
In addition, all standing water should be removed from the property. Pay special attention to birdbaths and ponds. Put in a pump or a fountain so the water moves and stays fresh.
West Nile Virus is very serious, which is why it is important to use preventative pest control measures this season. Keep the mosquitoes away by following these easy steps.
