Protect Yourself During Spring Clean
Thursday, 27th May 2010
As the weather warms up, people are gearing up for spring cleaning. It is important that people take certain precautions while cleaning so they can avoid catching Hantavirus. According to the Arizona Daily Sun, Hantavirus is spread through rodent nests and droppings, and thus, people must be careful when cleaning.
Spray rodent droppings and nests with disinfectant.Make sure to saturate the entire area, and then let it soak for at least fifteen minutes.
When the fifteen minutes have passed, put on rubber gloves and remove the droppings or nest. While the gloves act as protection, do not pick the items up with the gloves.Instead, use a mop or broom you can dispose of after you pick the droppings or nest up.
Next, seal the nest or droppings, along with the gloves and mop, into a trash bag. Take the bag out to the garbage immediately.
Once the area is clean, use pest control techniques to keep rodents out of the home.Hantavirus is very serious, and thus, you need to go on the offensive against rodents.
