Prime Conditions for Carpenter ants
Wednesday, 5th May 2010
Carpenter ants are more than a nuisance. They burrow in wood, and thus, destroy the structure of homes. PCT Magazine recently explained what people need to do to prevent carpenter ant infestations.
First, homeowners need to eliminate moisture. Faulty pipes, leaks and clogged gutters all contribute to moisture. In addition, a lack of ventilation in attics and crawlspaces can also lead to a buildup of moisture. Carpenter ants need water to survive, and they are drawn to places that have moisture.
People must also get rid of dead wood. Homes with dead wood are more likely to get carpenter ants.
In addition, tree limbs should also be trimmed. Tree limbs that touch the home are a welcome mat for carpenter ants. Houses that have tree limbs touching them are more likely to get carpenter ants, as the ants use the limbs to walk right up to the home.
When someone discovers carpenter ants in their home, he should take action immediately. Carpenter ant damage can be devastating, and thus, people need to use the proper pest control techniques to eliminate the problem.
