Pests Power On in the Spring

Thursday, 22nd April 2010

Many people think pests die off during a long, cold winter. According to the Randolph Leader, that is not the case. A long, cold winter may cause a slight reduction in pests. However, the reduction is virtually unnoticeable.

Many species of pests are dormant in the cold weather. This survival mechanism helps the pests live until the warm weather warms up. Then, they become active once again. After the dormant period, homeowners will likely notice a spike in pests.

Other pests move inside when the weather is cold. Once they are inside, they use the resources in the home so they can survive.

Since the cold weather does not kill off pests, people have to stay on top of their pest control year round. Pests can quickly take over the home if people are not careful. Thus, they need to take precautions and contact a pest control professional if the issue gets out of hand.
