Pest from Abroad Causing Serious Health Concerns

When it comes to pest control, it is not only local pests that cause concern. There are sometimes pests that hitch rides across the country that can cause their own serious health problems. One example is the Asian Tiger Mosquito – an insect that is known to carry serious diseases like Dengue Fever. This mosquito looks very different than domestic mosquitos, with black and white stripes and a very aggressive biting pattern. This mosquito has been found all over the United States and is considered a major concern to human health.

Controlling these pests can be difficult. There are over 3,000 different types of mosquitos that are able to travel all over the world via modern shipping and transportation, and many of them have the potential to spread very dangerous viruses. Experts recommend that you perform many preventative actions to decrease the population of these and other mosquito species including:

• Dumping out any and all standing water.
• Drilling holes in the bottom of tire swings and other household items that gather water.
• Taking basic mosquito precautions around your home.

Though the Asian Tiger Mosquito can carry serious disease, following these simple steps will go a long way towards keeping them away from your home. Since most other varieties of mosquitos are also particularly drawn to standing water, following these precautions will not only help keep the tiger mosquito away, but mosquitos in general.
