New Mosquito Can Spread Diseases Rapidly
Tuesday, 10th August 2010
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, the Asian Tiger Mosquito has made an appearance in the United States. Unlike other types of mosquitoes that only bite at dusk and dawn, the Asian Tiger Mosquito bites people all day long. Because of that, it is expected that the mosquito will spread more diseases than other mosquitoes in the United States.
The arrival of this mosquito in the United States is likely a byproduct of trade and travel. As people go to other nations and trade goods, mosquitoes hitch rides back to the United States. Now that the mosquito is here, people are encouraged to take pest control measures in order to protect themselves and their families. They should eliminate standing water around their homes, and need to wear DEET when they are outdoors. Previously, people only needed to wear DEET at dusk and dawn, but because this new type of mosquito will bite any time during the day or night, people should wear the repellent any time they are outdoors.
Mosquitoes are a serious public health threat, and people must take the proper precautions. Follow these tips so you will be free of mosquitoes this season.
