Mulch and Termites
Monday, 15th March 2010
As the weather warms, homeowners start working outside. People must be mindful when they add mulch to their yards, as mulch can attract termites and other pests.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, mulch must be placed a proper distance from the home in order to prevent a termite infestation. Homeowners should go around their homes and make sure mulch is several inches from the house. Any mulch that is closer than several inches should be moved away from the home. Then, the area should be properly cleaned to ensure all of the mulch remnants are removed.
Positioning is not the only concern regarding mulch. Excessive mulching can also lead to pest problems. Thus, homeowners must only use the amount of mulch they need. Any excess mulch should be discarded.
Homeowners must be careful when working in their yards. They must take steps to avoid a pest problem. Those who do have a problem should take pest control measures immediately in order to protect their homes and yards.
