Mosquito Season Has Arrived

Thursday, 20th May 2010

Mosquitoes spread diseases such as the West Nile virus, and thus, are a threat to people. According to the Kansas City Star, people can be proactive and keep mosquitoes away from their homes.

One way to keep mosquitoes away is to eliminate standing water. Mosquitoes need standing water to lay their eggs. If you have clogged gutters, lawn ornaments with water or a stagnant birdbath, mosquitoes will come in and lay eggs. Thus, do a quick search around your yard and remove any standing water.

You can also invite predators into your yard. Bats are a great way to get rid of mosquitoes. Put some bat houses in your yard and let the bats eat the mosquitoes up.

Also, put some fans outdoors. Most people do not realize mosquitoes don’t fly very well. If you put some fans in their path, they will change directions. They will leave you alone and set up camp in someone else’s yard.

Since mosquitoes are a health threat, you need to do everything in your power to keep them from coming onto your property. Use these simple pest control techniques so you can spend time outside without worrying about mosquitoes.
