Make Your Home Unlivable for Carpenter Ants

Wednesday, 9th June 2010

Often, people go to the store and purchase harsh chemicals to control carpenter ants. These chemicals should only be administered by a licensed professional, so people are putting their families in danger when they use them. Instead of purchasing a wealth of deadly chemicals, take preventative measures against carpenter ants. According to the Wescoaster, you can make your home uninviting to carpenter ants.

First, you need to clear a perimeter around your home. Carpenter ants are drawn to shrubs and greenery. Trim back your shrubs and make sure there is a wide space around your home that is clear.

Next, remove the damp wood around your home. Lots of people store firewood by their homes so they can easily grab it when they need it. If you do this, you are inviting carpenter ants onto your property. Store the wood away from your home.

In addition, inspect your home on a regular basis. You want to catch carpenter ants immediately before they can do any real damage, and the best way to do this is with regular inspections.

If you see carpenter ants on your property, contact a pest control professional immediately. They will be able to eliminate the ants without putting you or your family in harm’s way.
