Keeping Pests Out of Crawl Spaces and Attics

Wednesday, 7th April 2010

When crawl spaces and attics have moisture in them, they become very attractive to pests. Vents are put in attics and crawl spaces to keep the moisture out. However, if the vents are not able to do their job, the area will become moist and pests will come in. Thus, people must make sure their vents are working at all times. According to GreenBuilder.com, homeowners can easily make sure their vents are in working order.

First, homeowners must make sure plants and shrubs are away from foundation vents. People must keep up with their plants and follow a pruning schedule in order to ensure they do not get too close to the vents.

People must also make sure they have not painted over any vents. If a vent is painted over, it will not be able to ventilate the area. Thus, homeowners need to go over crawl spaces and attics and check to make sure the vents are not clogged with paint.

By doing these two simple things, people can keep their crawl spaces and attics ventilated. If they still end up with pests, though, they need to use the proper pest control methods to quickly eliminate the problem.
