Hurricane Irene Brings New Risk of Biting Pests
Monday, 3rd October 2011
Hurricane Irene has now come and gone, and while it may not have been the devastating storm that some predicted, it was still a deadly hurricane that damaged homes and flooded much of the East Coast. Cleaning crews have only now started to clean up the damage and still have a lot of work ahead of them.
Unfortunately, this hurricane has caused pest issues that may cause problems for those trying to clean up the mess. Health officials in North Carolina report that stinging insects like bees and hornets are likely to be extremely aggressive, because many of their nests have been disturbed as a result of the harsh winds, potentially leaving these insects highly irritable.
Any insect or small animal that has had their home disturbed or their food supply altered may be more likely to attack humans and pets in response. It’s important that you take extra precautions around bugs and other pests.
