El Nino Means a Busy Season for Pests
Friday, 26th March 2010
Dr. Bob Davis, an entomologist and scientist at chemical company BASF, has stated pest problems are likely going to get worse in the spring months. This is due to the wet weather pattern caused by El Nino.
According to Davis, spring will be exceptionally moist this year. The moisture attracts a large number of pests, including termites and ants. Davis states different geographical areas will have different pest problems. The South, for instance, will see a surge of ants and termites. The West, on the other hand, will have more spiders, scorpions and beetles than normal.
Since pests will be in abundance this spring, homeowners are urged to check their homes for signs of an infestation. If pests are discovered, homeowners need to contact a pest control professional immediately. Many of the pests that are common in the spring can do a great deal of damage if they are not eliminated quickly.
