Detecting Carpenter Ants

Wednesday, 3rd March 2010

For some, carpenter ants are a nuisance. For others, they are an expensive problem. It is important for homeowners to look for signs of an infestation. That way, they can stop the nuisance of the ants and prevent a serious problem from occurring.

According to the Yamhill Valley News Register, carpenter ants can be detected by looking for little piles of sawdust. While carpenter ants do not eat wood as termites do, they do nest in wood. They remove wood in order to build the nests. The displaced wood turns into piles of sawdust.

A line of ants marching to or from the house is another way to detect an infestation. If a homeowner notices these ants, they need to be aware the ants could be making tunnels with the wood in their home. This can cause a great deal of damage.

Those who detect and eliminate carpenter ants quickly can often prevent serious damage from occurring. Thus, homeowners need to check over the property and look for signs of an infestation. If they notice signs of carpenter ants, they need to use pest control techniques.
