Dengue Fever and Mosquitoes
Monday, 7th June 2010
When people think of mosquitoes, they often think of itchy bites. However, mosquitoes can do much more than make people itch. They carry a variety of diseases, including Dengue Fever. According to the Directors of Health Promotion and Education, Dengue Fever is a serious illness spread from mosquitoes.
People infected with Dengue Fever often display flu like symptoms, such as fever, rash, headaches and pain behind the eyes. Severe joint pain is another symptom of this illness. People who have this illness typically display symptoms for up to 10 days. However, it is often a month before people feel completely healthy again.
It is important for people to take precautions against mosquito bites so they can avoid Dengue Fever and other mosquito related illnesses. People should clear water off their property, as standing water attracts mosquitoes. In addition, they should wear mosquito repellent when they are outdoors. By taking these preventative pest control measures, people are less apt to contract illnesses from mosquitoes.
