Dangers of Roof Rats
Friday, 5th March 2010
Roof rats pose a threat to people, animals and homes. Due to the dangerous nature of these rats, pest control measures should be taken immediately if rats are spotted in or around a home.
According to the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, roof rats transmit diseases to humans and domestic animals. In addition, they damage homes. They use insulation for nests, and chew wires in the home. While the insulation damage can be costly, the wire damage can cause a house fire.
Roof rats are not easy to find in the home, as they spend most of their time overhead. However, homeowners can look for smudges around the house. These smudges are transferred from the fur of the rat onto walls. The smudges are usually found high on walls.
If a home is infested with roof rats, immediate action should be taken. These rats are very dangerous, and thus homeowners should not hesitate in finding and using the best pest control methods available.
