Dangers of Rodent Bait

Tuesday, 2nd February 2010

When homeowners take pest control into their own hands, the results can be fatal. According to Christina Macone-Greene of the Fallbrook Bonsall Village News, rat poisoning has been known to kill domesticated animals such as dogs. Thus, when pet owners use poisons to eliminate rodents, they put their animals, as well as animals around the neighborhood, at risk.

Macone-Greene reported on an incident in which two dogs ingested rodent bait. One of the dogs died, while the other made it to the vet just in time. In both cases, the animals suffered from pulmonary hemorrhaging.

Many types of rodent poison are sold over the counter, which causes homeowners to think they are safe. Those who have pets or small children, though, should consider the risks before administering poison.

Nonpoisonous traps are an alternative to rodent bait. In addition, professional pest control companies take the proper precautions when eliminating rodents in order to ensure everyone’s safety.

If you cannot remove rodents with nonpoisonous traps, contact a pest control company in order to have the rodents eliminated in the safest way possible.
