Cockroaches in the Kitchen
Friday, 12th February 2010
German cockroaches are the most common type of cockroaches in the United States. Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences states these roaches are incredibly dangerous, as they can spread diseases and illnesses. They are most dangerous when they come into contact with the food supply.
According to the college, cockroaches carry disease-causing organisms on their legs and bodies. As they move around, they deposit the organisms. In many cases, the organisms end up on food and utensils. When that happens, people can become ill.
The most common types of illnesses caused by contaminated food and utensils are food poisoning, dysentery and diarrhea. While these are the most common, people can get other illnesses or diseases from eating cockroach-contaminated food.
It is important for homeowners to eliminate cockroaches on the first sign of an infestation. The proper pest control techniques will get rid of the roaches and protect the food supply from contamination.
