Buying Pesticide? Check the Label
Thursday, 6th October 2011
In New York City, specifically the Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan areas, twelve shop owners were recently tried with the sale of illegal pesticides. In response to this, Connor’s would like to remind our customers of what to look for when buying pesticides to prevent support of illegal sales.
A pesticide is illegal if it is not registered with the EPA. The EPA requires that each pesticide is registered through them, and the successful registration of a product with the EPA means that the product is within legal guidelines for a pest control product. Overly toxic products, or ones which would tempt small children to eat it, will never be registered with the EPA, and are therefore illegal. EPA-registered pesticides will have a registration number printed on the label, and any pest control products should be checked for this label before purchase.
If you find a product which is not registered, Connor’s urges you not to purchase it. These pesticides have not been properly screened by the EPA, and thus could be a major health hazard for people and pets.
