Rats and mice are often mistaken for one another, but according to Pest Control and Clinical Waste Services in Lewisham, Greater London, there are telling physical differences between the two. It is important for homeowners to use these characteristics to properly identify rodents in the home so they can take appropriate measures to eliminate the pests.
Size is the first difference listed by the Pest Control and Clinical Waste Services. Adult rats weigh approximately 11 ounces, while mice way approximately an ounce. In addition, the length of the head and body of rats is 8-10 inches long, while mice are 2-4 inches.
Mice are typically brownish gray, while rats are usually brown to black on the upper head and body with lighter undersides.
