Bed Bugs and the Holidays
Monday, 20th December 2010
While bed bugs are a problem year round, the holidays cause some additional issues for people. When people travel, they run the risk of picking these pests up and bringing them home. Thus, it is important that people follow some tips set forth by the Naples News.
First, the news site recommends that people do an internet search of a hotel before traveling. For instance, they can Google the hotel name and “bed bugs” in order to see if the hotel has a history of bed bug problems.
In addition, people should be mindful of the type of luggage they use when they travel. Since these pests are attracted to cloth, hard-sided luggage is a good choice. Additionally, the luggage should be free from zippers, as bed bugs can maneuver through zippers and still make it inside of the luggage.
Next, items located inside of the suitcase should be sealed in a zip lock bag. That way, the items will be protected, even if bed bugs manage to get inside. Then, when people get home, they should vacuum out their suitcases and wash all of their clothing in hot water.
Bed bug infestations are on the rise, so it is important that people follow these steps and protect themselves this holiday season.
