Ants Pose Threat to Homeowners

Thursday, 18th March 2010

Ants are one of the most common household pests.  Many people think ants are nothing more than an annoyance, as they do not realize the damage these pests can do.  According to the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), ants create health, safety and property issues.

The NPMA states house ants and pavement ants are the types of ants most commonly found in homes.  These ants contaminate food sources, and thus pose a threat to homeowners.

Carpenter ants are another serious problem for homeowners, as they can cause structural damage to houses.  They dig through damaged and healthy wood in order to make nests.  If they go undetected, they can cause a great deal of structural damage.

Those who find ants in their homes need to take steps to remove the pests.  Ants should be dealt with swiftly, as they cause a serious threat to people.  Those who cannot remove the ants on their own are encouraged to call a pest control professional for help.
