Chipmunk

Chipmunk Control
Cutest of the squirrel family and comparable to the size of a teacup, chipmunks are a favorite among animators. With pudgy cheeks, fluffy tail, and innocent, glossy eyes, it’s hard to believe that they would be a nuisance.
Identifying a chipmunk
There are 25 species, ranging from Canada to Mexico. The eastern chipmunk is found mostly in the eastern United States.
Depending on the species, chipmunks range in color from gray to reddish-brown.
Although they are part of squirrel family; they can be easily identified by 2 tan and 5 dark brown or black stripes on the sides of their face and across their back and tail.
Damage
Chipmunks are generally known as a nuisance, consuming flower bulbs and improperly stored pet food. However, in large numbers, they have potential to weaken the structural integrity of homes and buildings by burrowing under and around foundations, patios and stairs.
Life Cycle
Chipmunks mate twice a year. The mating seasons occur once in early spring and again in June to August. The gestation period is 31 days. The mother gives birth to a litter of 2 to 5 each season. Baby chipmunks, or pups as they are called, are born furless and blind. They are nursed and protected in a burrow lined with leaves, grass and seeds.
Pups will remain in their burrow for 4 to 6 weeks. When ready, they venture out exercising their basic instinct to forage for food and burrow.
Habits
Chipmunks create complex burrow systems when natural ground coverings, such as heavy brush are sparse. These burrows have separate chambers for storing food, a nesting. The main tunnel is about 20 to 30 ft long with side pockets and even escapes tunnels.
